SOH v Mancia (CAAP 14-1-000794): Abuse Charge Vacated Due To Defective Jury Waiver Colloqui

This new summary disposition shows the stringent requirements imposed on trial judges to ensure that criminal defendants are properly informed of the consequences of waiving their rights to jury trial.  This is one of several appellate cases that have followed SOH v Baker, 132 Haw. 1 (2014), which is a case that I tried as a Deputy Public Defender and successfully appealed.
